2 Cor 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

ii.      John 14:15-18 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

c.       Bible exhorters in the Body of Christ. 1 Thess 4:18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

                                          i.      As God comforts us, we can comfort others. Romans 15:5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,

3)      Q> Where does our flesh tell us to find Comfort?

a.      Physical escape from reality. Stuff, of the flesh and world.

                                             i.      Q> How do we do this?

a.      Pride. James 4:3-6 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"? 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

5)      Q> How can we give comfort to those that are not in Christ?

a.    With the same Comfort that God comforts us with, the good news of salvation, with the understanding of an new life in Christ.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

6)      Q> Why is it important that we understand the concept of Comfort?

a.       Because just as Jobsí Friends might have had good intentions, their lack of a Godly perspective made them no comfort to Job.

b.       If we try to comfort someone outside of Gods exhortation, we might just do more damage than good.

c.       The best way to Comfort is from an eternal perspective based on God word, and not a temporal diversion.
